Obituary for Wanda J. Wichers

Mrs. Wanda Wichers, age 74, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020, at her residence.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, January 21, at 11:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Maurice. The Rev. Wick Hubers will officiate. Visitation with the family will be on Tuesday, from 10:00am to 11:00am, at the CHURCH.

Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Wanda Joyce was born on March 9, 1945, in Sioux Center, the daughter of Frederick and Johanna Dorothy (Rens) Herweyer. She was raised in Orange City and graduated from the Orange City High School.

On June 5, 1964, she was united in marriage to Robert Lee Wichers at the First Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. They made their home on a farm near Orange City, where they raised their four daughters.

Wanda was a member of the First Reformed Church in Maurice and the Sabre Saddle Club in Orange City. She was a volunteer at the Orange City Area Health System, working in the gift shop and same day surgery clinic. She enjoyed participating in activities with the Red Hat Ladies, working in her flower garden, doing embroidery work, reading, and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of more than fifty-five years; four daughters, Kim Krull, and her friend, Kirk Te Grootenhuis, both of Alton; Lisa, and her husband, Dan Majors, of Marysville, Washington; Robyn, and her husband, Chris Parks, of Marble, Minnesota; and Jody, and her husband, Jason Albers, of Alton; ten grandchildren, Savanah Hall, Jesse, and her husband, Brandon Mars, Tanner Krull, Mallory, and her husband, Anthony Bacon, Mackenzie Albrecht, Jordyn Albrecht, Isabella Parks, Maria Albers, Greg Albers, and Ellie Albers; ten great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and a brother and his wife, James and Deb Herweyer, of Northwood.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Isaac Mars.

Memorials may be directed to the family for the purchasing of books to encourage elementary school students to read.
