Obituary for Pauline A. Van Der Zwaag

Mrs. Pauline Van Der Zwaag, age 100, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

There will be a funeral service on Tuesday, May 28, at 11:00am, at the Free Grace Reformed Church in Middleburg. The Rev. Mark Schwarz and the Rev. Steven Breen will officiate. Interment will follow the service at the Capel Township Cemetery, near Middleburg. Visitation with the family will be on Monday, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Pauline Arta was born on January 29, 1919, at Boyden, the daughter of John M. and Dora (Van Meeteren) Mouw. She was raised at Boyden, where she assisted area families as a teenager.

On March 27, 1941, she married Jurry Van Der Zwaag in Middleburg. They farmed at Boyden until 1976, when they moved into Middleburg. He passed away on March 30, 1993, in Orange City.

Mrs. Van Der Zwaag later moved into Orange City. On November 2, 1916, she became a resident of Pleasant Acres.

She was a lifetime member of the Free Grace Reformed Church, where she belonged to the Women’s Guild and participated in Bible studies. She was also a member of the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Auxiliary in Orange City.

Besides being a homemaker, she was a farm wife, who helped with the chores. She enjoyed gardening, especially flowers, and she looked forward to visits from her family.

Survivors include her daughter and her husband, Darlene and George Beach, of Stewartville, Minnesota; her son and his wife, Ben and Grace Van Der Zwaag, of Boyden; nine grandchildren, Van (Erin) Beach, Jennifer Beach, Katherine (Chris) Jenkins; Jed Van Der Zwaag, Cara (Brent) Boon, Brad (Cinda) Van Der Zwaag, Andrew (Nikki) Van Der Zwaag, Tony (Annie) Van Der Zwaag, and Steve Van Der Zwaag; and 34 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister, Morris Mouw, Jeanette Doppenberg, Donald Mouw, and Wallace Mouw.
