Obituary for Mildred F. Harms

Mrs. Mildred “Millie” Harms, age 89, of Alton, formerly of George, passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

Family and friends are invited to a memorial gathering on Saturday, January 26, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm, at the Alton Community Center. A private family interment will take place at the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George. The Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City is assisting the family.

Mildred Frances Harms was born on August 15, 1929, in Midland Township near Rock Rapids, the daughter of Dick and Tena (Aeilts) Dirks. The family later moved to George, where she was raised and attended school.

She was united in marriage to LeRoy Harms on October 1, 1947, in George. They made their home in George, where they raised their three children, Richard, Melody, and Cynthia. The couple ended their marriage in 1977.

Millie briefly lived in Belmond, before settling in Alton in 1981. In addition to being a homemaker, she worked at several area businesses. In November of last year, she became a resident of the Good Samaritan Society.

Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Richard and Jackie Harms, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Melody and Steve Sherrill, of Le Mars; and Cynthia and Kimball Bobeldyk, of Brandon, South Dakota; six grandchildren, David Harms; Lacey (Aaron) Benson; Stefanie (Curt) Reinschmidt; Nicole (Ty) Talton; Keith Bobeldyk; and Eric Bobeldyk; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Dixie Vogt, of Rock Rapids, and two sisters-in-law, Rose Dirks, of Belmond, and Ruth Dirks, of Deer River, Minnesota.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister and her husband, Amy and Ken De Berg; three brothers, Ben Dirks, Donald Dirks, and Terry Dirks; and a brother-in-law, Bill Vogt.
