Marvin was born on August 20, 1934, in Rock Valley, the son of Marinus and Hendrika (Van Bemmel) Boon. He was raised on the family farm near Rock Valley and attended the Rock Valley Christian School. He enlisted in the United States Army and served his country from 1956 to 1958. He was a medic and ambulance driver for one year in Germany.

On July 31, 1959, he was united in marriage to Eileen Kay Smit in Hull. They lived on the family farm for the first ten years of their marriage. In 1969 they moved to Artesia, California, where Marv began his own gardening business. In 1973 they relocated to Wausau, Wisconsin, where he was a truck driver for Land O’ Lakes Tupperware. In 1976, he began working for Paper Specialty as a truck driver. When the company was sold to Central Wisconsin Paper, he was made warehouse supervisor. They retired to Hull in December of 1999.

Favorite pastimes included doubles bowling, puzzles, gardening, spending times with grandchildren. He had a passion for gospel hymns and enjoyed monthly hymn sings with his brothers and sisters. He often accompanied himself with his guitar and harmonica. One of his great loves was doing fret work on his scroll saw.

Survivors include his wife of more than sixty years; three daughters and their spouses, Debra and Dr. Noel Davis, of San Antonio, Texas; Edna and Terry Lutzow, of Estherville; and Marcia Green, of Mahomet, Illinois; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; a brother, John Boon, of Rock Valley; and two sisters, Hilda Vink, of Doon, and Joan and Virg Horstman, of Hull.
