James Cornelius was born on August 16, 1930, on his family’s farm near Boyden, the son of Ring and Hendrina (Schalekamp) Wielenga. He was raised on the family farm and attended country school. He served for two years in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was united in marriage to Ann Klarenbeek, on October 17, 1952, in Rock Valley. Following his honorable discharge from the Army in 1954, the couple made their home on the Wielenga Family farm, which he operated until moving to Hull in November of 1994. In July of 2018, Jim became a resident of the Royale Meadows Care Center.

Mr. Wielenga was a baptized, lifelong member of the Free Grace Reformed Church, where he had served as a deacon. He also belonged to the Wegman-Koele American Legion Post in Hull. He enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with his family and dear friends, Al and Harriet Kooiker and their family.

Survivors include his wife of more than 67 years; six children and their spouses, Gayla (Wielenga) and Jon Mortenson, Leroy and Bonnie (Vander Stouwe) Wielenga, Marlene (Wielenga) and Arlin De Weerd, Dave and Kim (Franken) Wielenga, Lisa (Wielenga) and Dave Van Otterloo, and Kevin and Pamela (Van Maanen) Wielenga; eighteen grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Mae Ver Steeg.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jimmy Wielenga; a brother and his wife, Lawrence and Tillie Wielenga; and a brother-in-law, Norman Ver Steeg.
