In her early twenties, she moved to Sioux Center, where she worked for the Sieperda’s and at the Co-op, processing chickens. She worked for thirteen years grading eggs, and seventeen years working at Peter’s Grocery, until they closed. She then began working at the Farm and Home Center in Sioux Center until she retired.

Ellen was a member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Center. She enjoyed gardening and making pigs in the blanket for Christian education fundraising.

In July of 2018, she became a resident at the Pleasant Acres Care Center.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Geri Gritters, of Hull; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Wesselink; and a brother, John E. Gritters.
