Debera Jean was born on December 11, 1957, in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Norlan Joseph and Sandra Jean (Wilcox) Blumer. She was raised in Fort Dodge until her family moved to Sioux City when she was a teenager.

Survivors include her husband of more than nineteen years; three children and their spouses, Niki and Kirk Wurscher, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; and Penny Tipton and Mark Sweisberger, and Matthew and Kyle Tipton, all of Sioux City; a step-son and his wife, Jacob and Ashley Van Roekel, of Alton; a step-daughter, Samantha Van Roekel, of Phoenix, Arizona; six grandsons, Traylor Wurscher, Maysen Wurscher, Justin Sweisberger, Braeden Sweisberger, Keegan Sweisberger, and Ethan Tipton; a granddaughter on the way; her mother, Sandy Gunnink, of Sioux City; a sister and her husband, Dee and Bob Armbright, of North Sioux City, South Dakota; a sister-in-law, Tricia Blumer, of Sioux City; her step-siblings and their spouses, Brian and Sue Gunnink; Galen Gunnink; Darin and Jolene Gunnink; and Jason and Susan Gunnink; her parents-in-law, Harlan and Janice Van Roekel, of Orange City; a sister-in-law and her husband, Nyla and Eric Zehr, of Victor; a brother-in-law and his wife, Carl and Wendy Van Roekel, of Hospers; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Norlan Blumer, she was preceded in death by a sister, Darcy Blumer, in infancy; a brother, Daniel Blumer; her step-father, Frank Gunnink; and a nephew, Tony Van Roekel.
