Mrs. Jane Even, age 83, of Alton, passed away on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Orange City Area Health System Hospital.
There will be a funeral service on Monday, March 10, at 10:30am, at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Alton. The Rev. Fr. Terry Roder will officiate. Interment will follow at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3:30pm on Sunday, with a prayer service at 4:00pm and a rosary at 7:00pm, at the church.
Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Norma Jane was born on September 28, 1930, at Oyens, the daughter of William and Helen (Majeres) Schnepf. She was raised at Oyens and Remsen, where she attended the Oyens Catholic grade school and Remsen St. Mary’s High School, and graduated from the St. Joesph’s School of Nursing in Sioux City. She was a Registerd Nurse at the Orange City Municipal Hospital and Sioux County Community Health for more than forty years.
On May 12, 1952, she married Michael Henry Even at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Oyens. They made their home in Alton, where she was active with the St. Mary’s Catholic Church Guild, the Sioux Golf and Country Club, and WASPs. “Mike” passed away on April 30, 2011 in Orange City.
Jane enjoyed her family, crocheting, needle point, playing bridge, baking, and sporting events. She was also a member of the Floyd American Legion Post Auxiliary in Alton.
Survivors include three sons, Mick (Gayle) Even, of Le Mars; Mark (Joyce) Even, of Rochester, Minnesota; and Matt (Phyllis) Even, of Algona; two daughters, Mary (Mark) Conway, of Cedar Falls; and Melissa (Matt) Elsbecker, of Fort Dodge; seventeen grandchildren, Jake (Kathleen) Even; Gina (Joe Sidari) Even; Amanda (Zach) Delsman; Tyler (Jenny) Even; Dan Even (fiancé, Katie Hedine); Nick (Libby) Even; Lisa Even; Allison (Josh) Saba; Katrina Even; Molly Conway; Katie Conway; Jack Conway; Zach Elsbecker; Chloe Elsbecker; Mackenzie Elsbecker; Eli Elsbecker; and Maggie Elsbecker; a granddaughter-in-law, Micale Conway; eleven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Loretta Schnepf, of Le Mars; Mike’s brothers, Jack (Janet) Even, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Jim (Carol) Even, of Port Clinton, Ohio; Mike's sisters, Mary Lois Even, of Sioux City; and Carol (Jeff) Halstrom, of Yuma, Arizona; and a sister-in-law, Lois Even, of Alton.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Andy Conway; her seven siblings and their spouses, Ralph Schnepf, Elmer (Esther) Schnepf, Marian (Bill) Fitzpatrick, Harriet (Frank) Ludwig, Helen (Sylvester) Pick, Mac (Theresa) Schnepf, and Delores (T. W.) Flaherty.
