RONALD NOTEBOOM
Mr. Ronald Noteboom, age 68, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at his residence.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, May 4, at 10:30am, at the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church in Orange City. The Rev. Robert Drenten will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the West Lawn Cemetery in Orange City. There will be a prayer service on Monday, at 9:30am, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
Visitation will be after 1:00pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, at the funeral home.
Ronald Lee was born on August 21, 1940, in Orange City, the son of Arie C. and Lucy (De Jong) Noteboom. He was raised at Orange City, where he attended the Christian School. He also graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, and he served in the Air National Guard from 1957 to 1963.
On December 28, 1962, he married Joanne J. Dorhout in Rock Valley. They made their home in Orange City, where he established a service station. His business operated under the names of North Star, Ron's Deep Rock, Kerr-McGee, and Conoco, where he served as a distributor.
Ron was a charter member of the Immanuel Christian Reformed Church, where he served as an elder. He was also on the boards of directors of the Christian School and Unity Christian High School, both in Orange City. He served as president of the Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Tulip Festival Steering Committee in Orange City, and he was a member of the Oil Jobbers Association.
He enjoyed playing golf and chess and following the Cubs and Bears. The love of his life was his work and family.
Survivors include his wife of more than 46 years; a daughter and her husband, Natalie and Shep Ysselsstein, of Rock Valley; two sons, Chad Noteboom, of Orange City; and Gregory, and his wife, Mary, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; three grandchildren, Darren, Lee, and Joel Ysselstein; three brothers and their wives, Tom and Eleanor Noteboom and Vernon and Carol Noteboom, all of Orange City; and Arie, Jr., and Mary Noteboom, of Alton; a sister-in-law, Leona Noteboom, of Orange City; four step-brothers and two step-sisters and their spouses, Harold and Ann Boonstra, of Orland Park, Illinois; and Robert and Myrna Boonstra, Norman and Velma Boonstra, Lois and Frank Vogel, Mary Ellen and Vernon Mouw, and Rudolph Boonstra, all of Orange City; his mother-in-law, Johanna Dorhout, of Rock Valley; two brothers-in-law and their wives, Siebert and Judi Dorhout, of Rock Valley; and Clarence and Arletta Dorhout, of Orange City; and lifetime friend and his wife, Justin and Dorothy Hofmeyer, of Orange City.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Anne Noteboom; a brother, Peter Noteboom; a sister and her husband, Luetta and Glenn Oolman; an infant brother, also named Peter; and his father-in-law, Peter Dorhout.
Memorials may be directed to the Orange City Christian School, Unity Christian High School, and Atlas.
