Mr. Henry Leusink, age 64, of Hull, lost his battle with esophageal lung cancer on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at his residence, surrounded by family and friends.

There will be a funeral service on Monday, April 6, at 10:00am, at the First Reformed Church in Hull. The Rev. Verlyn Boone will officiate. Interment will follow at the Hope Cemetery in Hull. Visitation with the family present will be on Sunday, from 2:00pm to 5:00pm, at the CHURCH. Arrangements are with the Oolman Funeral Home in Hull.

Henry “Hank” Willis was born on December 17, 1944, in Orange City, the son of William “Bill” and Tena (Vogel) Leusink. He was raised in Minnesota, where he graduated from the Holland Christian School. He also kept busy working on the family farm with all his brothers and sisters.

During the Vietnam Conflict, on August 20, 1965, he joined the United States Air Force, becoming an aircraft maintenance specialist. While there, he completed his General Equivalency Diploma. He was first stationed in Bangkok, Thailand. He then transferred to the Davis Mountain Air Force Base in Tucson, Arizona.

In Tucson, Hank met Margaret Marie Corrales, and they were married there on August 3, 1968. They first made their home in Tucson, later moving to Pipestone, Minnesota, and finally settling at Hull.

In 1971, he became a partner of Berghorst and Son in Hull. He had a true passion for traveling around and moving everything from churches, to houses, to transformers. Upon being diagnosed with cancer in 2005, he retired and began his uphill battle, surrounded by family and friends. He kept a smile on his face and God in his heart.

Hank was a member of the First Reformed Church, where he served as a deacon, elder, and Sunday school and catechism teacher. He enjoyed snowmobiling, boating, and spending time at his cabin at Lake Okoboji, especially when his grandchildren were there. He worked hard and played hard.

Survivors include his wife of more than forty years, “Marge”; two sons and their wives, Harlan and Kristi Leusink, of Paynesville, Minnesota; and Mark and Sam Leusink of Milbank, South Dakota; two loving grandchildren, Garrett and Samantha Leusink; twelve siblings, Alvina (Bob) Smith, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kenneth (Mary) Leusink, of Hull; Marlene (Alvis) Van Beek, of Ireton; Phyllis Otten, of Sioux Falls; Janet (Bob) Kallemeyn, of Lake Benton, Minnesota; John (Ronda) Leusink, of Orange City; Hedy (Douglas) Van Bruggen, of Sioux Center; Thelma Brown, of Aberdeen, South Dakota; William “Bill” (Elaine) Leusink, of Maurice; Bernice (Gerb) Doornink, of Sioux Center; David (Carolyn) Leusink, of Charlevoix, Michigan; and Denise (Mike) Vander Broek, of Sioux Center; a sister-in-law, Valerie Leusink, of Hull; many nephews and nieces, whom he loved; and special neighbors and friends, Keith and Shirley Lambert.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Stanley Leusink; two nephews, Michael Kallemeyn and William “B. J.” Leusink; and two nieces, Tonya Leusink and infant Kaylee Rose Cuperus.

He will be greatly missed, always loved, and forever remembered. We may have lost a husband, father, grandfather, brother uncle, and friend, but gaining an angel is never bad.
