EVADEANE H. KLINGHAGEN

Mrs. Evadeane Klinghagen, age 83, of Orange City, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2009, at the Sanford Hospice Cottage in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

There will be a memorial service on Saturday, May 2, at 3:00pm, at the Dover Avenue Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Orange City. The Rev. Jeffrey Keady will officiate. Interment will be on Sunday, at the Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven, Minnesota.

Visitation will be after 5:00pm on Friday, with the family present from 6:00pm to 8:00pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.

Evadeane Hermina was born on February 28, 1926, in Orange City, the daughter of Clarence Edward and Ella Jacoba (De Haan) Balkema. She was raised at Orange City, where she graduated from high school in 1943. She also graduated from the University of Minnesota Cadet Nursing Program.

She lived in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where she was employed in an ammunitions factory, and in Annville, Kentucky, where she was a public health nurse for the Reformed Church Project. She also lived in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Tournavista, Peru, South America, and Enterprise, Alabama.

On January 3, 1953, Evadeane married Simon Henry Klinghagen in Orange City. He passed away on February 4, 1967, in Dothan, Alabama. She then moved to Orange City, where she was a physical therapist aid at the Orange City Municipal Hospital.

She was a member of the Dover Avenue Alliance Church, where she served as treasurer of the Women's Mission Group, taught Sunday school classes, and helped mail missionary newsletters. She was also active in the Girl Scouts of America and the Pressman-Kosters American Legion Post Auxiliary, where she was president and secretary.

Mrs. Klinghagen enjoyed singing, reading and studying her Bible, baking and sewing.

Survivors include her four children, Rachel Klinghagen, of Sioux Falls; Jonathan Klinghagen, and his wife, Jennifer, and David Klinghagen, and his wife, Julie, all of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and Mary Beth, and her husband, Bruce Thayer, of Kerkhoven; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Jana) Klinghagen; Joshua (Heidi) Klinghagen; Rebekah (Chris) Albertson, Dustin Klinghagen, Drew Klinghagen, Jason (Alicia) Thayer, Virginia Thayer, Monica Thayer, and Renee Thayer; and four great-grandchidlren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother and his wife, Albert and Mary Jean Balkema.
